| Other Info | Off the blocks at 6.30pm, aim to pass the finish line at 9pm. Drink stops on the way! To celebrate the Manchester Marathon, being held for the first time in ten years on April 29th, 26 poets – representing 26 miles of a marathon – will read poems from their own repertoire as well as other specially selected poems, all on the theme of Freedom from Torture. The event is expected to last around 3 hours, representing the time a (good!) runner would complete a marathon. There will be two 'Water Station' intervals on the way with musical entertainment. The event will also be an opportunity to thank the 22 runners who have chosen to run the marathon for Freedom from Torture on the 29th April. There will be a suggested donation of £5 on the door but we encourage everyone to come along. Confirmed poets so far include Ben Mellor (pictured), Segun Lee-French, Martin de Mello, Cathy Bolton, Col Bashir, Shamshad Khan, Elmi Ali, Keisha Thompson and many others. If you are unable to attend, please show your support for our 22 runners and 26 poets by making a donation and helping us to continue with our vital work. |
