The Spoken Word has been creeping its way back into the collective consciousness as a contemporary poetic artform over recent years and is being given a helping hand in north Wales by regional artists, culture mag producers and event organisers, theAbsurd. Bringing their unique brand to the theatre this summer theAbsurd are showcasing some of the most dynamic poets and lyricists from across the UK.

Malaysian born, London based, Francesca Beard represents contemporary British literature across the world through her work with the British Arts Council. ‘Witty and narcotic’ – The Independent. ‘Queen of British performance poetry’ – London Metro.

BBC Radio 4 Poetry Slam Champion 2009, Manchester’s Ben Mellor uses a loop-station to create beats and soundscapes that accompany his explosive vocals. ‘…lyrical dexterity & content that demands attention, gets it, and most importantly… holds it.’ – Diké Omeje.

Local poet, Sophie McKeand, (Bangor Slam Champion 2008, Royal Pavilion Llangollen Poet 2010) will be starting proceedings, and the event will be skilfully held together by the genius compéreing of one of the founders of Spoken Word in Brighton, Hammer & Tongue’s Jonny Fluffypunk.

This event is Supported by Academi.
