As you’ll have already gathered, my parents gave me the name Ben Mellor and I write, perform and educate. I do other things as well but those three activities are what I set up this website to advertise. I realise that to say I ‘educate’ sounds a bit lofty but there’s no other way to say ‘run workshops’ in one word, and I do attempt to educate people in those workshops, though they mostly educate me just as much in return.
I usually write the things I perform and perform the things I write, either on my own or with other people (on the stage that is, there’s usually at least one person in the audience). These things include poetry, theatre, and experimental performance. I like working with musicians too, mostly in a hip-hop or jazz sort of vein.
I’ve also performed things other people have written and written things other people have performed, or that no one has performed but hopefully some people have read. These things include poetry, plays, short stories, short films and the occasional article.
I live in Manchester. I like cooking. I won the 2009 BBC Radio 4 National Poetry Slam. I no longer have a cat.
